Exciting juvenile Matrika (2f No Nay Never – Muravka, by High Chaparral) built on a fantastic run at Royal Ascot to win the Group 2 Airlie Stud Stakes at the Curragh.
The Barronstown-bred bay emerged as a smart prospect when making a winning debut at the track at the end of May and defied her inexperience when finishing second in the Group 3 Albany Stakes next time out. Sent off favourite just eight days after that performance, Aidan O’Brien’s representative raced prominently under Ryan Moore and was pushed along from two furlongs out. Ridden to lead inside the final furlong, she ran on well to score by a length and three quarters.
Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “Matrika has a great constitution. She learned an awful lot from her run at Ascot and came out of that race very well. She has plenty of natural speed.”
Owned by Coolmore partners with Westerberg, Matrika is a full-sister to dual Grade 3 winner and Group 1 second Unicorn Lion. The Barronstown-bred filly is also a half-sister to top-class two-year-old The Wow Signal and Group performer Miss Infinity.
