A Barronstown Stud homebred topped the third and final day of the Tattersalls Book 1 Yearling Sale when selling to MV Magnier and George Von Opel’s Westerberg for 2,100,000gns.
The daughter of Galileo benefitted from some tremendous updates since the catalogue was printed, with full-brother Lancaster House winning his first three starts, including the Listed Listowel Stakes.
On his expensive purchase, MV Magnier commented, “She’s a lovely filly and Aidan [O’Brien] has always felt that Lancaster House is a very good horse.” Von Opel was represented by Jamie McCalmont, who added, “We raced the mare with Paul Reddam before she was sold to the Nagles. This filly was the one horse we really wanted in the sale and it isn’t a shock that she made so much money.”
The April-born chesnut is out of dual Graded winner and Grade 1 placed Quiet Oasis and comes from the family of New Approach, Alfred Nobel and Was.
It was Westerberg’s second purchase from Barronstown Stud that week, having parted with 850,000gns for a Galileo half-sister to top juvenile Ivawood. She is out of Keenes Royale, a three-time winner and half-sister to Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes victor Berkshire. Her second dam is Prix de l’Opera heroine Kinnaird, while Laurens features further down the page.
