While Barronstown Stud were celebrating Sovereign’s victory in the Irish Derby, another graduate in Matterhorn (4c Raven’s Pass – Tanaghum, by Darshaan) gained a well-deserved black-type win in the Listed Midsummer Stakes at Windsor.

The ultra-consistent colt had twice finished second at Group level in May and was sent off favourite for the mile contest under Franny Norton. Making all, he was travelling well while the others toiled from the two furlong pole and was ridden out to extend his advantage to two lengths on the line. It saw his impressive record increase to eight wins from 14 starts, while his earnings grew to over €270,000.

Trained by Mark Johnston for Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Matterhorn is a half-brother to this seasons Group 3 winner Bangkok, who was last seen finishing second in the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot. Their black-type dam, Tanaghum, has produced five Stakes horses in total.
