Progressive three-year-old Technician (3c Mastercraftsman – Arosa, by Sadler’s Wells) gained his first Stakes win when taking the Listed Prix Ridgway at Longchamp.
The Martyn Meade trained colt was dropping back to ten furlongs, the trip over which he finished second to fellow Barronstown-bred Bangkok in the Group 3 Classic Trial in April. Oisin Murphy rode the grey to lead, asking him to quicken over two furlongs out and despite being headed, battled back to regain the advantage inside the final furlong. Driven out, he held off the favourite Battle Of Toro by a head.
Owned by Team Valor, who purchased the colt after winning his maiden in April, Technician was sold by Barronstown Stud at the Goffs Orby Sale to Dermot Farrington. He is a half-brother to three winners, including Group 3 performer Water Hole, bred out of Barronstown homebred Arosa. She, in turn, is a full-sister to multiple Group winner Crimson Tide and Group 3 winner Tamarind, herself the producer of two Stakes horses.
