Bangkok (3c Australia – Tanaghum, by Darshaan) beat Technician to complete a 1-2 for Barronstown-bred colts in the Group 3 bet365 Classic Trial at Sandown.

An impressive maiden winner last time out, he remained over the ten furlong trip and was sent off favourite under Silvestre De Sousa. Held up in a field of six, he made good headway to lead approaching the final furlong and was pushed out to score by a length and a quarter. Technician, another impressive maiden winner on his previous start, encountered trouble in running and ran on well to take second close home.

Andrew Balding, who trains the winner for King Power Racing, later commented, “Bankok is a very high class horse. Silvestre was very impressed by him and I think he has won with any amount in hand. He has got a good acceleration and he is a tidy horse. I think we will go straight to Epsom. I’d have no issues about the track for him as he is a well balanced horse.”

Sold by Barronstown Stud at the Tattersalls Book 1 Yearling Sale for 500,000gns to Sackville Donald, Bangkok becomes the fourth Stakes horse bred out of the black-type mare Tanaghum, herself a daughter of Irish 1,000 Guineas heroine Mehthaaf.

Bangkok’s half-brother Matterhorn recently won the valuable Middle Distance Championship by seven lengths and has now won seven of his ten starts.
