Dawn Rising (6g Galileo – Devoted To You, by Danehill Dancer) proved a willing partner for Ryan Moore when justifying favouritism in the Queen Alexandra Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Group-placed as a three-year-old, the talented bay was last seen taking third in the Group 3 Levmoss Stakes and stepped up to two miles and five furlongs at Ascot. Chasing the leaders for much of the way, he asserted on the turn for home and was ridden approaching the final furlong. Staying on gamely, he prevailed by half a length on the line.
Speaking after the race, Ryan Moore said, “Joseph had Dawn Rising beautifully prepared for today. I hadn’t really asked him for everything and he was always finding plenty.”
The Barronstown-bred six-year-old is a full-brother to Irish Derby victor Sovereign.
