The Foxes (2c Churchill – Tanaghum, by Darshaan) became Barronstown Stud’s third Stakes winner of the month when landing the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket.
Andrew Balding compared The Foxes to the colt’s dual Group winning brother Bangkok after the two-year-old won his maiden at Glorious Goodwood, and stepped the bay up to a mile on Saturday. Held up by David Probert, he was switched right approaching the two furlong marker and was soon pushed along. Ridden to lead inside the final furlong, he kept on well to win by half a length.
“I love the way The Foxes galloped out head down,” the winning trainer later said. “I would think that would be it for the year. He has got an entry in the Vertem Futurity Trophy, but I think he is a horse that will go on next year.”
The Foxes is owned by King Power Racing, having been bought by Sackville Donald from Barrownstown Stud at Tattersalls Book 1 for 440,000gns. The son of Churchill becomes an impressive sixth individual Stakes winner out of Barronstown broodmare Tanaghum.
