Saturday saw the Barronstown-bred Paris Peacock (3f Muhaarar – Weekend Fling, by Forest Wildcat) record back-to-back black-type wins in the Group 3 Denny Cordell Lavarack & Lanwades Stud Fillies & Mares Stakes.
Placed in numerous maidens, the Jessica Harrington-trained bay gained a deserved maiden victory in last month’s Listed Hurry Harriet Stakes for Mrs Paul Shanahan, Mrs John Magnier and Mrs David Nagle. Subsequently sold privately to Craig Bernick, she was one of four previous Stakes winners to line up for the Group 3 contest and was settled in midfield by Shane Foley.
Making headway from two furlongs out, she was ridden to lead approaching the final furlong and kept on well to deny English raide Kawida by a neck on the line. The pair finished two and a half lengths clear of the third.
Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “Paris Peacock has really improved since getting her head in front. Shane said she took him there almost too quickly and when the other filly came to her she put her head down and went again. I can’t ask for much more from her.”
Paris Peacock is one of three Group performers out of Weekend Fling, whose No Nay Never colt sells at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.
