The Barronstown-bred Perotan (3f Churchill – Tanaghum, by Darshaan) shaped like a potential Stakes performer when flying home on debut at Bellewstown.
The Aidan O’Brien-trained bay had evidently impressed at home, judging by Group 1 entries in the Irish Oaks and Nassau Stakes, but showed signs of inexperience when pushed along from two furlongs out. Once she understood her task, she flew home to lead inside the final furlong and ran on to beat the more experienced Isotta by a length and three quarters.
Winning rider Seamie Heffernan later revealed, “Perotan always worked like a nice filly with a bit of class. She won well at the line and hopefully she keeps progressing.”
Perotan is owned by Masaaki Matsushima, Coolmore and Westerberg. The daughter of Churchill continues Tanaghum’s terrific record as a broodmare, having produced five Stakes performers, including Group 1 winner Matterhorn, Group 2 victor Bangkok and Group 3 scorer Tactic.
