Saturday saw the Barronstown Stud-bred Bangkok (5c Australia – Tanaghum, by Darshaan) record back-to-back wins in the Listed Winter Derby Trial at Lingfield.
The Andrew Balding-trained bay was sent off favourite under Ryan Moore, who rode him to chase the leaders. Ridden on the turn for home, he produced a strong challenge entering the final furlong and ran on well to win by half a length.
It marked a third Stakes overall for Bangkok, who also captured the Group 3 Classic Trial as a three-year-old. Barronstown Stud sold the son of Australia as a yearling to Sackville Donald on behalf of owners King Power Racing. He is a half-brother to four black-type performers, including Group 1 victor Matterhorn.
