The Barronstown-bred Arturo Toscanini (2c Galileo – Snow Queen, by Danehill Dancer) shaped like a smart prospect when making a winning debut in a Curragh maiden on Monday.
Racing over seven furlongs, the son of Galileo was held up behind the leaders by Seamie Heffernan and was pushed along from the two furlong marker. Running on well, the bay displayed signs of inexperience, but ran on well to lead close home and scored by half a length.
Speaking after the race, Heffernan said, “I felt I was going to win from two down and I won well at the line. His dam was very talented and we never saw what she could do. This fella has a little bit of toe and a good attitude.”
Owned by Mrs John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith, Arturo Toscanini is trained by Aidan O’Brien, who trained his dam Snow Queen to gain black-type on four occasions.
