Technician (3c Mastercraftsman – Arosa, by Sadler’s Wells) continued an excellent start to the 2019 flat season for breeders Barronstown Stud when winning his maiden impressively at Leicester.
The Martyn Meade-trained colt was racing over a mile and a half for the first time, with his sole start at two seeing him finish third over eight and a half furlongs. Ridden prominently by Oisin Murphy, he led after two furlongs and was asked to quicken over two furlongs from home. Staying on well, he scored by three and a quarter lengths, as previous two-time winner Themaxwecan finished second, eight lengths clear of to the third.
The David Caddy-owned winner holds entries in the Dante Stakes and Epsom Derby. Sold by Barronstown at the Goffs Orby Sale to Dermot Farrington, he is a half-brother to Group 3 performer Water Hole, out of a Stakes winning full-sister to two Group winners. Group 1 winner Recoletos and champion three-year-old Shahrastani feature further down the page.
