Monday saw the Barronstown-bred Rosso (3c Camelot – Egyptian Sky, by Fastnet Rock) gain a deserved win in the mile and a half maiden at Roscommon.

Fourth to another Barronstown-bred colt in Jan Brueghel on debut, Joseph O’Brien’s charge went one better at Leopardstown next time out and improved to take second at the Curragh on his third start. He was sent off favourite at Roscommon and travelled strongly throughout under Declan McDonogh, improving to lead two furlongs from home. Ridden clear a furlong later, he ran on to score by two lengths and three quarters, with another four and a half lengths back to the third.

McDonogh later described the Lloyd Williams-owned colt as “a nice big horse.” The son of Camelot was sold by Barronstown Stud to his trainer at Tattersalls Book 1 for 120,000gns.
