The well-related Sandhurst (2c Galileo – How’s She Cuttin’, by Shinko Forest) justified some lofty entries when staying on strongly to win the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Race at Gowran Park.
Aidan O’Brien’s charge caught the eye on debut in June, when he finished third despite being hampered in a Leopardstown maiden, but faced two previous winners on his next start. Held up by Seamie Heffernan, he was pushed along from three out and stayed on well into second inside the final furlong. Leading close home, he beat maiden winner and favourite by a length and a half on the line.
Heffernan gave some encouraging feedback after the win, saying, “It was a strongly-run race and he hit the line well. I liked him.”
Entered in the Irish and English Derby and Guineas, the son of Galileo is owned by Mrs John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith. The Barronstown-bred bay is a half-brother to Royal Ascot winner Washington DC and recent maiden winner Al Tarmaah.
