Orderofthegarter (6c Galileo – Kitty Kiernan, by Pivotal) earned himself a spot in next month’s Caulfield Cup by landing Saturday’s $160,000 Group 3 Foundation Cup at Caulfield.
The Lloyd and Nick Williams-owned bay had finished second on his first two starts for Danny O’Brien, following an absence of almost two years, and was sent off favourite for the ten furlong contest. Ridden to chase the leaders by Damien Oliver, the son of Galileo produced his challenge in the straight and ran home strongly to score by three parts of a length.
Speaking after the race, Danny O’Brien said, “He’s a lovely horse, a good-looking son of Galileo — very genuine. He tries really hard every time you send him out there. He always travelled like the winner.”
Saturday marked a second Stakes success for Orderofthegarter, who was previously trained by Aidan O’Brien to win the Irish 2,000 Guineas Trial. The six-year-old was bred by Barronstown Stud out talented race mare Kitty Kiernan, herself a daughter of Irish 1,000 Guienas fourth Alstemeria.
