Orchidia (3f Bated Breath – New Orchid, by Quest For Fame) continued on an upward curve when gaining her maiden win over nine and a half furlongs at Wolverhampton.
Fourth on debut in April, she finished a close second in July and was sent off favourite on her third attempt. Ridden to track the leaders by Thomas Greatrex, she improved to take second two furlongs out and led half a furlong later. Ridden to go clear inside the final furlong, she won by two lengths and a quarter.
Trained by Roger Charlton for Glentree Pastoral Pty Ltd, Orchidia was bought by
Badgers Bloodstock from Barronstown Stud for €120,000 at the Goffs Orby Sale. She is a half-sister to Group 1 winning sprinter African Rose and Prix Marcel Boussac second Helleborine, also known as the dam of Calyx. Their black-type dam New Orchid, meanwhile, is a half-sister to Dewhurst Stakes winner Distant Music.
