Shadn (2f No Nay Never – Amethyst, by Sadler’s Wells) became the latest black-type winner bred by Barronstown Stud when taking the Listed Rose Bowl Stakes at Newbury.
An impressive winner on debut in June, the Andrew Balding-trained filly was next seen finishing mid-division in the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes. Her latest start marked a return to six furlongs, with Oisin Murphy riding the sole filly in the field to track the leader and produced a challenge approaching the final furlong. Staying on well, she led close home to deny Woodcote Stakes third Misty Grey by three parts of a length, with another length and three quarters back to dual winner Al Aakif in third.
Owned by Al Rabban Racing, Shadn holds an entry in the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes in September. She is one of six winners out of her dam, Listed winner and Irish 1,000 Guineas runner-up Amethyst. Amethyst is a full-sister to top-class miler King Of Kings and Athasi Stakes heroine Lucky, while her half-siblings include Prix Robert Papin victor General Monash and the dam of Group 1 performer China Visit.
