Even Song (2f Mastercraftsman – Guantanamera, by Sadler’s Wells) ran out an impressive winner of the mile maiden at Leopardstown on Saturday.
A promising third on debut just eight days prior, the Aidan O’Brien-trained mare ws sent off favourite under Colm O’Donoghue, who rode her to chase the leaders. Improving over two furlongs from home, she led entering the final furlong and strode clear to win by three and a half lengths.
O’Donoghue was full of praise for the winner, later commenting, “Even Song is a good filly and is hard to fault. She’s an Oaks filly for sure.” Stamina is, indeed, on Even Song’s side, with the Barronstown-bred filly being closely-related to St. Leger heroine Simple Verse, who followed up in the Group 1 British Champion Fillies & Mares Stakes just a week ago.
